School of the Environment Results

School of the Environment faculty participation in the 2021 Faculty Climate Survey contributes to the Belonging at Yale initiative, a comprehensive effort launched by President Peter Salovey in 2020 to enhance diversity, support equity, and promote an environment of inclusion and respect at the university. All faculty with primary and fully-joint appointments in the School of the Environment were invited to take the survey; responses are shown below.

Response rate

The YSE faculty response rate to the survey was 55% (vs. an overall Yale faculty response rate of 30%):

  • 69% YSE ladder faculty response rate (vs. 44% Yale ladder faculty overall)
  • 48% YSE instructional faculty response rate (vs. 18% Yale instructional faculty overall)
  • 43% YSE research faculty response rate (vs. 13% Yale research faculty overall)

Please note: although YSE response rates are strong, where response rates are low, caution should be taken regarding conclusions that are broadly representative of the overall faculty or a particular subset of faculty. In the bar charts below, the text boxes provide a summary of responses but do not represent the opinions of faculty who did not complete the survey.
